Placencia is a 17 Mile Long Sandy Peninsula in Southern Belize

Lots To Do in and from Placencia

The Placencia peninsula situated along the coast in southern Belize boasts the longest stretch of beaches in the country.

 

The activities available from Placencia seem never ending: 

  • diving & snorkeling at the Belize Barrier Reef or one of the many offshore cayes.

  • Fishing for the crafty barracuda or the elusive permit. 

  • Hiking the jungle trails of the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary.

Placencia: A Quick History

The village/peninsula was named Placencia, which means pleasant point. Once you visit, you will understand it was an appropriate name.   

 

A one time sleepy fishing village, Placencia has grown over the years to accommodate the area’s growing tourism industry. 

 

Placencia village has several grocery stores with specialty stores popping up all the time – making it easy to have a little taste of home when you need it.  

 

A wide range of tour operations, bars, and restaurants, cafes, gift shops, auto rentals...are at your fingertips including Seaspray’s De Tatch Seafood Bar and Grill.

 

Getting to Placencia is a snap:  

Regular flights come into the Placencia Airstrip several times a day as do public bus services. 

 

Placencia can also be reached by regular boat service between the peninsula and the mainland as well as weekly water taxis between Placencia and Puerto Cortez, Honduras.
